The Experience

This superbly restored luxurious holiday home is as stunning as its location and within sight of the iconic Lake Windermere.

Behind the front door is a haven of tranquillity, with large chesterfield sofas to relax into and lots of home comforts like a wood-burning stove. The slate top dining table set into the bay window is a particularly unique and attractive feature.

There’s impressive attention to detail throughout, with a parquet floor in the living room, Egyptian cotton linen in the bedrooms and en-suites for every bedroom. The zip and link bed in the super king size bedroom can be converted to twin beds, just ask before your stay.

To the rear of the property is a secluded large patio, with comfortable outdoor furniture and a feature fireplace. It’s the perfect spot to rest those legs after a day spent exploring the lakeside paths and hillside walks of this beautiful part of the country.

Bowness-on-Windermere is one of the Lake District’s most popular towns, and it’s easy to see why. There’s so much to do here, much of it water-related, with boats for hire and watersports to try. People also come here to sign up to outdoor activities and walks, and there are plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants to keep you occupied all day.

While you’re visiting you might want to take a lake cruise and get a different view of Windermere. The ferries take you to Ambleside and Lakeside. If you hop off at Ambleside, you can take a horse-drawn carriage to Waterhead Pier, or take a short walk to see Stock Ghyll Force, a spectacular waterfall.

Or take the ferry across the lake and then amble the ‘West Shore Walk’, a gentle stroll along the shoreline. For something more strenuous, you could choose to walk the 2.5 miles or so from Windermere Hotel to Orrest Head, one of the guidebook author Alfred Wainwright’s favourite walks.
