Lady Daphne

Lady Daphne

When it comes to experiencing the best of Bath’s sights, this apartment is hard to beat. Sitting right in the heart of the city centre, you’ve got Bath Abbey and the famous Roman Baths on your doorstep, both just a minute away. While the home has double-glazing to keep the noise at bay, sensitive sleepers may wish to pack earplugs nonetheless with the abbey’s bells nearby. Contemporary decor and metro-tiled baths are nice touches here, and though the kitchen is on the small side, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to restaurants, bars and shops all around you.

The River Ends

The River Ends

Situated in the laidback Larkhill neighbourhood, this house is a comfortable base from which to explore Bath and beyond. The city centre is a fifteen-minute drive away and there are two pubs within a short walk of your doorstep. The place benefits from a back garden, which is a sun trap in the summer months, and the kitchen is kitted out with everything you need for home cooking. Upstairs, you’ll find the sleeping quarters – the second bedroom is smaller than the first and there isn’t any storage space, so you may want to pack light.

The mews you’ll be staying in is quiet yet central enough to offer a relaxing walk to the sights. You’ll also have the Bath Recreation Ground around the corner if you want to go for a morning jog. The kitchen opens up to a sunny courtyard, set up for alfresco dining courtesy of a large gas barbecue. Pastel hues highlight the natural brightness of the home and help create a relaxed atmosphere, while carefully selected art and book collections add a homely touch. Choose from a selection of music to play while you cook to keep the atmosphere lively. If you’re driving, you’ll find parking space for two cars – a much sought-after rarity in central Bath.

Georgian Courtyard

Georgian Courtyard

It’s easy to find yourself transported to the era of local resident Jane Austen when you relax in the lounge of this lovely Georgian home. With decorative plasterwork, huge sash windows, original working shutters, an open fire and a sumptuous brass bed, it’s the perfect love nest for any modern-day Elizabeth Bennett and her Mr Darcy. On summer’s evenings, the fragrant garden is just the place for a glass of wine, or if you’re visiting in winter, a flickering fire in the grand drawing room sets the scene for a romantic evening a deux. When you’re ready to explore, take a promenade into the city (the centre is just a five-minute stroll) to admire the historic crescents, Roman Baths and the Abbey. Bath’s 21st Century charms are just as manifold, with an array of independent shops and cafés to enjoy, such as those in Margaret’s Buildings, less than a minute on foot. Or unwind at the Thermae Bath Spa with its roof-top pool (a ten-minute saunter).

Rose & Slate

Rose & Slate

In the heart of Bath’s UNESCO-protected historical streets, this home is like something out of a regency romance novel, combining elegant Georgian chic with modern highlights. The wood-panelled walls and grand cornices of the living room have been updated in a soft, stone colour, while the deep green sofa and leather armchair wouldn’t be out of place in the library of a grand mansion. The huge windows flood the space with beams of natural light, and the original fireplace harks back to days of brandy and cigars. The striking kitchen in black and gold has everything you need for self-catering, but the city centre’s pubs and restaurants are right on your doorstep if you’d prefer to leave the cooking to someone else (you’re on holiday, after all).

Bath Chime

Bath Chime

With a glimpse of the Abbey from one window and a peek of the Roman Baths from the other, boltholes in Bath don’t get much more central than this. Perched on the top floor of a Georgian townhouse, you’ll need to climb a fair amount of stairs to get to this apartment. But with knockout vistas of the city’s skyline as your reward, we don’t think you’ll mind. While the chimes of the Abbey’s bells are utterly charming, they might not suit guests looking for marathon lie-ins. Although, with the city at your feet, we suspect you’ll be up and at ’em anyway.
